Project Challenges

As this was an old gravel pit, there was a reasonable amount of material that was allowed to be repurposed into cement aggregate. As the ground was very permeable, when the great flood of 2021 occurred, it raised the water table significantly causing a need for extra dewatering to allow for the project to continue construction.

There was an extremely deep sanitary overbuild manhole in the intersection of 192 and 28th Ave. This was in proximity to the Metro Vancouver watermain, so a work plan had to be approved prior to construction. During its construction, to minimize delays to the public, 24hr shifts were established to ensure construction was clear of the intersection as soon as possible.
